Crowds expected for opening of Wyoming antler hunting season
JACKSON, Wyo. – Federal agencies are gearing up for the droves of people expected to hunt horns or shed antlers on public lands in Wyoming.
The Jackson Hole News and Guide reports the opening of antler hunting season Wednesday coincides with the lifting of closures for large tracts of the Bridger-Teton National Forest.
National Elk Refuge Manager Brian Glaspell says he anticipates a strong turnout after the opening last year had 280 vehicles lined up on the road to the refuge near Jackson.
The refuge is bringing in six extra law enforcement officers for the day to assist its sole officer.
Shed antler hunters don’t need a license, but an interstate game tag is required for antlers or horns still attached to skulls.
