WHL PLAYOFFS: Kelowna Rockets edged by visiting Seattle Thunderbirds

KELOWNA – The Seattle Thunderbirds defeated the Kelowna Rockets 2-1 on Friday night, April 22, at Prospera Place, opening up a one-game-to-nothing lead in the WHL's Western Conference Championship.

Seattle scored twice late in the second to break open a tightly contested game while Kelowna's Rourke Chartier got the Rockets on the board late in the game, but it wasn't enough for a comeback.

Seattle and Kelowna will play game two Saturday night at Prospera Place.

The game was scoreless through the first period and for most of the second frame before Seattle scored two late goals within 36 seconds of each other to grab a lead.

Michael Herringer suffered the loss in net as Seattle outshot Kelowna 29-24 in the game.

Both teams were 1-for-3 on the power play.

The best-of-seven series continues on Saturday night with game two at Prospera Place.

Tickets are available for the game through www.selectyourtickets.com, at the Prospera Place box office or by phone at 250-762-5050.
