CFL slaps Riders’ defensive lineman George for illegal hit on Tate

TORONTO – The CFL suspended defensive lineman Tearrius George of the Saskatchewan Roughriders for the opening game of the 2013 season for an illegal hit in last weekend’s West Division final.

George was suspended after a heading Wednesday with CFL commissioner Mark Cohon.

George delivered a helmet-to-helmet hit on Calgary quarterback Drew Tate in the second quarter of the Stampeders’ 36-30 win over Saskatchewan on Sunday.

As a result of the Riders’ playoff loss, George will sit out Saskatchewan’s opening contest of the 2013 campaign.
