BCHL PLAYOFFS: West Kelowna Warriors down Chilliwack Chiefs to win Fred Page Cup

WEST KELOWNA – The West Kelowna Warriors are BCHL Fred Page Cup Champions and advance to the Western Canada Cup.

With a 4-2 victory over the Chilliwack Chiefs on Saturday night, April 23, the Warriors squad picked up their first ever championship in front of a full house of passionate Warriors fans at Royal LePage Place

The Warriors opened the scoring in the first period, as Garrett Forster's slap shot from the left circle beat Aidan Pelino to open the scoring in the first two minutes.

Chilliwack responded almost immediately, as Ryan Forbes jammed one past Keelan Williams to tie the game up at one.

West Kelowna went ahead with a great backhand move by captain Kyle Marino put the Warriors ahead.

There was no scoring in the second period, as the Warriors killed off a pair of penalties in the frame to take the lead to the third period.

The Warriors went up 3-1 on Kylar Hope's 15th of the playoffs on the power play from the slot, as the building erupted once more.

Jonathan Desbiens gave the Warriors a 4-1 lead with a goal just moments later.

The Chiefs got within two after that, but the Warriors saw the time tick down with a packed house on its feet as West Kelowna wins their first Fred Page Cup in their 10-year history in the Okanagan.

With the victory, the Warriors now advance to the Crescent Point Energy Western Canada Cup in Estevan, Saskatchewan starting Saturday, April 30 against the host Estevan Bruins.
