Ex-Minnesota cop convicted of murder sued over traffic stop

MINNEAPOLIS – A Minneapolis man is suing a former police officer recently convicted of murder for allegedly pointing a gun at him during a traffic stop.

Brian Oman contends former Officer Mohamed Noor and another officer wrongfully pulled him over in May 2017.

Oman says Noor pointed his gun at the motorist for about 30 seconds. The lawsuit says Oman didn’t do anything to justify the officers drawing their guns. A citation against Oman was later dismissed.

The lawsuit also names the other officer, Justin Schmidt, and the city of Minneapolis as defendants.

The Star Tribune reports attorneys for the city said the officers drew their guns but denied that it was illegal or unwarranted.

Noor fatally shot Justine Ruszczyk Damond in July 2017 after she called 911 to report a possible crime. Noor was convicted of murder earlier this year.
