Unsecured items cause accident

VERNON –  Failure to secure items in the back of a truck caused a crash involving two vehicles Wednesday afternoon.

Cpl. Gerry Kovaks says a 19-year-old Kelowna man was driving down Highway 97 around 4:45 p.m. when some unsecured personal property in the back of his truck flew out. A 52-year-old female driver from Vernon following directly behind reacted by swerving out of the way. The driver of the truck slammed on his brakes when he noticed what had happened, and the two vehicles collided near Bailey Road. The woman's car received heavy damage.

The woman was taken to hospital with undetermined, non-life-threatening injuries. The Kelowna man has been charged with driving with an unsecured load.

Vernon Fire and Rescue were on scene shortly after the crash, assisting the injured woman.
