Vernon Mounties raid marijuana grow op near school

VERNON – You don't see this much anymore but Mounties here raided a marijuana grow operation last night.

Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP spokesperson Jocelyn Noseworthy says the difference is this one was near a school. The home was in the 2400-block of 15 Street near Vernon Secondary School.

Police used a warrant and "seized over 10 kgs of marijuana" as well as paraphernalia used to grow it. A release issued by the RCMP doesn't say if the 10 kgs was dried bud or plants.

"The location of this grow op was particularly concerning because it is a residential area and very close to a school," Noseworthy says in the release.

Charges have not yet been laid.
