SANTEE, Calif. – The Latest on a California plane crash that killed 2 people (all times local):

3:30 p.m.

Authorities say a plane crash that killed 2 people in San Diego County also claimed the life of a dog that was on the aircraft.

Fire officials say the Cessna 182 Skylane had taken off from a nearby airport shortly before 7 a.m. Tuesday when it had a mechanical problem.

Witnesses reported hearing the engine throttle and cellphone video showed the plane swerving and weaving as it went down.

The plane crashed nose-first into a glass company storage yard in Santee.

Nobody on the ground was hurt.

Two dogs on board the plane were injured and one later died.

The identities of the pilot and passenger haven’t been released.

A small plane has crashed in a San Diego County storage yard, killing two people and injuring two dogs that were also aboard.

The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that the plane went nose-first into the yard of a glass company shortly before 7 a.m. Tuesday in Santee.

City Fire Chief Richard Smith says the Cessna 182 Skylane had some kind of mechanical problem shortly after takeoff from a nearby airport and a witness reported hearing a “throttling” sound.

He says the pilot circled around and was trying to make it back to the airport when the plane crashed.

There was no fire but the plane was wrecked.
