four-goal first period the difference as the Ice beat the Wheat Kings 5-3
CRANBROOK, B.C. – The Kootenay Ice scored four times in the first period as they went on to down the visiting Brandon Wheat Kings 5-3 on Friday in Western Hockey League action.
Austin Vetterl, Jaedon Descheneau, Sam Reinhart and Collin Shirley all scored in the opening 20 minutes for the Ice (6-12-1) while Kyle O’Connor rounded out Kootenay’s offence with a goal in the second period.
Ryan Pulock, Alessio Bertaggia and Jayce Hawryluk scored for the Wheat Kings (9-10-3), who have dropped three straight games.
Mackenzie Skapski made 32 saves for the win as Corbin Boes allowed four goals on 15 shots in the first period to pick up the loss.
Curtis Honey came in for the Wheat Kings for the final 40 minutes and stopped 16-of-17 shots in relief.
Kooteny went 2-for-4 on the power play while Brandon went 1-for-3.
