CBC touts TV ratings for Pan Am opening ceremony

TORONTO – CBC says an average audience of 1.93 million people tuned in to the opening ceremony of the Pan Am Games on CBC-TV and CBC News Network.

The official broadcaster of the games says CBC-TV’s audience reached an estimated 2.34 million viewers when Team Canada entered the stadium during the parade of nations.

Meanwhile, data suggests Saturday’s prime-time show drew an average audience of more than one million viewers.

CBC released the numbers as many sports fans took to social media to complain about a dearth of live TV coverage and limited live streaming options at http://www.cbc.ca/panam and the CBC Sports App.

CBC/Radio-Canada is offering weekday broadcasts in the afternoon, prime time, and late night, with more programming on weekends.

The games continue through July 26. The Parapan Am Games take place Aug. 7 to 15.
