Kelowna Fire Department efforts can’t save farm building

KELOWNA – A fire at a rural property in Rutland gave firefighters a challenge Sunday.

Kelowna Fire Department Platoon Capt. Dennis Miller says when they arrived at the home at 7:46 p.m., they found a barn on fire, along with other out buildings. But when they attacked the blaze with three engines, they found the property too far from fire hydrants so they had to shuttle water to the property with tenders, Miller says.

The barn was destroyed while the other buildings were damaged as well. 

"The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and fire investigators will be on scene tomorrow," he says.
