Canada loses third straight at ICC World Twenty20 cricket qualifier

STIRLING, Scotland – Canada dropped to 0-3-0 at the ICC World Twenty20 India 2016 Qualifier after losing by five wickets Tuesday to the United Arab Emirates.

Hiral Patel scored 45 and Navneet Dhaliwal was 39 not out as Canada collected 132 runs at the expense of nine wickets in its 20 overs.

The Emirates (1-3-0) reached their victory target with five balls to spare, scoring 136 for five. Mohammad Shahzad led the way with an innings of 56.

The top six sides in the 14-team tournament will join the ICC’s 10 full members for the ICC World Twenty20 India 2016, which runs March 11 to April 3.

Canada is in Group B with Afghanistan, United Arab Emirates, Netherlands, Oman, Scotland and Kenya.

Canada’s next game is Thursday against host Scotland (2-2-0).
