Brad Jacobs, John Morris advance straight to semifinals at Elite 10

PORT HAWKESBURY, N.S. – Brad Jacobs of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., and John Morris of Vernon, B.C., will bypass the quarter-finals and head right to the semis at the Elite 10, the fifth stop on the Grand Slam of Curling tour.

Jacobs secured his spot in the final four by beating Toronto’s John Epping 4-up in Friday’s evening draw.

He will face the winner of Saturday’s quarter-final match between Calgary’s Kevin Koe and Switzerland’s Peter de Cruz.

Morris downed Saskatoon’s Steve Laycock 3-up on Friday night for his place in the semis.

Former teammates Reid Carruthers and Jeff Stoughton, both from Winnipeg, meet in Saturday’s other quarter-final, with the winner moving on to face Morris.

Both semifinals go Saturday afternoon.

Brier champion Brad Gushue of St. John’s, N.L. failed to make it out of round-robin play.

The Grand Slam event features a match-play format.
