RCMP officer, fire chief use climbing gear to rescue dog stuck on ledge in B.C.

LOGAN LAKE, B.C. – A large dog has many more walks ahead thanks to the actions of an RCMP officer and a volunteer fire chief in British Columbia’s southern Interior.

Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey says Chevy, a nearly 40-kilogram, seven-year-old American bulldog terrier cross, was out with her owners near Logan Lake, last Wednesday.

She somehow strayed over the edge of a waterfall lookout and became stranded three metres down the 30-metre-deep rocky canyon.

A bystander hiked into cell range to call for help and O’Donaghey says Const. Kyle Vanditmars and fire Chief Doug Wilson made the roughly 45-minute trek to reach the scene.

The RCMP release says the two men realized Chevy could not safely get off the ledge so they donned climbing and rappelling gear to reach her.

The pooch was quickly returned to her waiting family, with no injuries to dog or rescuers.
