Green Bay Bible Camp fire deemed suspicious

WEST KELOWNA – Investigators have concluded the fire at a Green Bay Bible Camp dormitory is suspicious.

West Kelowna Fire Rescue was called to a two-storey dorm at the bible camp on Green Bay Road just before 10 a.m. Saturday, April 30. There they found a fire in the lounge area on the second floor.

Assistant fire chief Darren Lee says quick action by staff and guests helped people escape and prevented the fire from growing rapidly.

Lee says the fire was burning against an interior wall and it had spread into the wall and attic space.

Today, May 4, West Kelowna fire chief Jason Brolund said the fire is being classified as suspicious and the file has been forwarded to RCMP.

Calls to the RCMP were not immediately returned.
