HBO, Bill Simmons say goodbye to ‘Any Given Wednesday’

LOS ANGELES – HBO’s weekly talk show “Any Given Wednesday” is ending its run after less than five months.

The last episode of the show hosted by Bill Simmons will air next week on Nov. 9. The cable channel said it and Simmons made the joint decision to end “Any Given Wednesday,” which debuted in late June.

In a statement Friday, Simmons said he joined HBO to create a program featuring “smart conversations” for sports fans and pop culture junkies. But his show failed to resonate with audiences, Simmons said.

HBO said it will remain in business with Simmons, with new programs to be developed under the HBO Sports banner.
