State revokes license from centre where toddlers mistreated

WEST MONROE, La. – Education officials in Louisiana have revoked the license and pulled public funding from an early learning centre where they say several 3-year-olds were mistreated.

The Louisiana Department of Education said in a news release this week that 48-year-old Yolanda Rochelle Jackson was charged with felony cruelty to juveniles.

The release says video from The Assembly Kidz Care in West Monroe shows Jackson drop one child, aggressively grab another and drag a third. She’s also accused of hitting and shaking the children.

State officials say a parent watching the video notified the centre’s director. The education department says the centre didn’t alert state officials or parents within the required 24-hour time frame.

The News-Star reports Jackson’s arraignment is Sept. 24. Her attorney has requested a reduction in her $17,000 bond.
