"IT'S NOT ABOUT THE GROUP, IT'S ABOUT THE PASSION."

KELOWNA – When Aaron Noble decided to start a car club that doesn’t discriminate against what type of vehicle you drive, he had no idea how popular it would become.

Noble is the founder of LowerClass Car Club, a group with over 300 members and a common passion.

“We’re kind of the first to start a group for people to come together no matter what kind of vehicle you have,” he says. “We have everything from Firefly’s to Lamborghini’s.”

There are no membership dues and no long-term commitments; the only requirement is that you love cars.

It started only four months ago with a group of five friends who would meet once a week for what they called “Cars and Coffee.”

“We were just hanging out one night and we saw another group that looked like cool guys so we asked to join them,” he says. “They all had higher (priced) cars and they declined. They said no because they wanted to be a club with only expensive cars. We decided to make a group where everyone was welcome because it’s not about the group it’s about the passion.”

In the four months since Noble founded the club the membership has grown significantly.

“We started out just trying to get the word out about what we had going on in our back yard but now we have around 30 or 40 cars that come out,” he says. “We moved away from the cliques. We wanted everyone to come together, have fun and be more family-friendly. There’s no drag racing, no burnouts or anything like that.”

Noble says the sudden success of the group has inspired him to seek out troubled youth and encourage them to find their passions.

“It’s kind of a spot where we can take troubled teens and give them something positive to do,” he says. “It’s a safe environment where people can get together without partying or clubbing.”

LowerClass Car Club meets every Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in the old Zeller’s parking in West Kelowna and will be at the Cops for Kids fundraiser May 25.

“We want people to enjoy cars no matter what they drive,” Noble says. “The only thing we charge for is stickers.”
