One killed, one injured in Kamloops train collision

KAMLOOPS – Police say one man was killed an another injured when they were hit by a CP train in Valleyview around midnight.

The two men were walking along the tracks at the intersection of East Trans Canada Highway and Comazzetto Road. A 49-year-old man was dead when police arrived, says Staff Sgt. Dave Lucas. His 22-year-old companion, however, suffered only 'superficial injuries' but was taken to Royal Inland hospital for treatment.

"The deceased was known to the police and recently released from (Kamloops Regional Correctional Centre)," Lucas says. "Thus far this appears to be an accident and not a suicide."

B.C. Coroner’s Service and CP Police are investigated the incident. The next of kin notification is still pending.
