Canada downs Peurto Rico to set up 2011 Pan Am gold rematch with U.S.

AJAX, Ont. – Canada’s men’s baseball team advanced to the Pan American Games gold-medal final with a 7-1 victory over Puerto Rico in semifinal action Saturday night.

Right-hander Phillippe Aumont of Gatineau, Que., pitched eight shutout innings of three-hit ball and struck out eight to lead Canada into the final for a second straight Games. Brock Dykxhoorn gave up one run in the ninth.

Jordan Lennerton, Tyson Gillies and Brock Kjeldgaard each hit a home run and Pete Orr had two runs batted in for the defending Pan Am champion Canadians, who will face the United States for gold on Sunday in a rematch of the 2011 final.

Puerto Rico will take on Cuba for bronze Sunday afternoon.
