Giovinco, Ousted and Ciman added to MLS all-star team

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Players from all three Canadian clubs were named to the Major League Soccer all-star team on Saturday, including Toronto FC star Sebastian Giovinco.

The former Juventus player has 12 goals and nine assists in 18 games for Toronto this season and has been named the league’s player of the week three times. Yet he was not named to the team through fan and player voting, and commissioner Don Garber used his selections on Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard, former stars of England’s Premier League with little MLS experience.

All-star coach Pablo Mastroeni also added Vancouver Whitecaps goaltender David Ousted and Montreal Impact defender Laurent Ciman to his roster.

Ousted has started every game for Vancouver this season, posting a 10-8-2 record with seven shutouts.

Ciman, a Belgian in his first MLS season, is Montreal’s top central defender and the spine of the Impact’s back four.

Reigning MLS MVP Robbie Keane and the current goals leader Kei Kamara were also added to the all-star game against Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur.

Toronto FC captain Michael Bradley was voted in by the fans.

The game is July 29 in Commerce City, Colorado.
