SURREY, B.C. – Homicide detectives have laid second-degree murder charges against two men in a case involving a Surrey, B.C., man that dates back more than a year.
The accused were arrested Friday and charged in the death of Lakhwinder Singh Bal, who was found unconscious and critically injured near a Surrey fast-food restaurant parking lot on Aug. 19, 2018.
The 48-year-old died later in hospital.
At the time, the RCMP said officers had responded to reports of a fight in the area.
They have never said what caused Bal’s death, although a statement from the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says the attack was not random nor gang-related.
Daljeet and Gurmail Biring appeared before a judge on Monday and remain in custody prior to their next court date in Surrey on Nov. 19.
This report by The Canadian Press was first published Oct. 30, 2019.
