Saskatchewan labour minister’s remarks on new union rules disappoint group
REGINA – The Saskatchewan Federation of Labour says it’s disappointed with the way new labour rules have been released.
Federation president Larry Hubich (HUE’-bick) is questioning why Labour Minister Don Morgan would discuss details about new union laws at a business association that he says is anti-union.
Morgan announced plans to change specific labour laws while speaking at the North Saskatoon Business Association luncheon on Friday.
The government plans to overhaul 15 separate pieces of workplace-related legislation into one omnibus labour law.
Morgan suggested one change would strip unions of the ability to fine members who violate codes of conduct, such as crossing picket lines.
The legislation is expected to be introduced this fall and it would be passed in the spring.
