TULUKSAK, Alaska – Alaska State Troopers arrested a southwest Alaska woman after she reportedly struck a family member with a fireplace tool.
Troopers say 29-year-old Melissa Mike of Tuluksak (too-LOOK-sak) on Friday struck the family member and caused a serious injury with a fire stoker.
Mike was held on suspicion of assault. Online court documents do not list her attorney.
The family member was flown to Anchorage with what troopers describe as possible life-threatening injuries.
Mike was transported to Yukon Kuskokwim Correctional Center in Bethel and held without bail.
Tuluksak is a village of 365 about 35 miles (56 kilometres) northeast of Bethel.
