Associated Press, British Movietone to place extensive newsreel archives on YouTube
LONDON – The Associated Press and British Movietone are placing their extensive newsreel archives on YouTube.
They will place more than 1 million minutes of digitized film footage on the video-sharing platform.
The archive will include coverage of major historical events like the bombing of Pearl Harbor and footage of celebrities like Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe and Muhammad Ali.
The AP said Wednesday more than 550,000 videos dating back to 1895 will be available on YouTube. It said this will be the largest upload of historical news content to be placed on the platform.
A wide range of topics is covered including fashion, sports, political upheaval, entertainment and many others.
