Penticton apartment building evacuated for balcony fire
PENTICTON – The residents of an apartment building in Penticton were evacuated this morning as firefighters doused a blaze on the balcony of one of the units.
Deputy Fire Chief Dave Spalding says they were called just after 8:30 a.m., May 12, to a report of smoke from the balcony of the apartment at 888 Fairview Rd.
Firefighters found a plastic garbage bag on fire.
The bag was put out with a dry chemical extinguisher and residents of the apartment building returned to their units shortly afterwards, Spalding says.
The fire did some minor damage to the balcony and minimal smoke made it inside the suite.
No one was hurt and the cause of the fire is unknown, he says.
