TORONTO – Kate Campbell won silver in women’s 55-kilogram karate competition on Thursday at the Pan American Games.
Campbell, from Fredericton, N.B., lost to Brazil’s Valeria Kumizaki by Hantei 1-1.
Earlier, Vancouver’s Jusleen Virk earned bronze in the women’s 50-kilogram event.
She lost to Chile’s Gabriela Bruna in the semifinals.
In karate, like other combat sports, the losers of semifinal matches automatically earn bronze.
Bruna went on to win silver, losing to Ana Villanueva of the Dominican Republic in the final.
