Couple rescued from Kalamalka Lake near Vernon

COLDSTREAM – A couple were take to Vernon hospital after they were pulled from Kalamalka Lake in Coldstream yesterday afternoon.

RCMP say the man and woman fell from an inflatable Zodiac-type of boat into the icy water of Kalamalka Lake around 4:15 p.m., May 14.

The woman was hit by the propeller and received significant, but non-life threatening, injuries to her legs, according to RCMP Corp. Spencer Hornoi.

“Some passersby in the area of Cousins Bay and Rattlesnake Point rescued the two people from the water,” Hornoi says, adding the pair were not wearing life jackets. He wasn't sure if there were life jackets in the boat.

Hornoi says they were brought to the Kinloch boat ramp on Kinloch Drive and taken to Vernon Jubilee Hospital by ambulance.

The man wasn’t hurt, but was in shock and exhausted from spending at least five minutes in the ice-cold lake water without a life jacket, he says.
