COLUMBUS, Ohio – Jozy Altidore drew a penalty in the box and converted it from the spot in the 89th minute to complete Toronto FC’s three-goal rally for a 3-3 draw with Columbus Crew SC on Saturday night.

The Crew’s Waylon Francis took Altidore down with a push in the back near the 6-yard box. Altidore buried the penalty kick into the left corner of the goal.

“It was crazy. Crazy is the word for it,” said Altidore. “I am also happy with the way the guys responded, I thought it was great to come from 3-0 down against a direct rival for us, it was impressive.”

Toronto FC (8-7-4) trailed by three early in the second half before Sebastian Giovinco and Collen Warner quickly cut the deficit to one with a pair of goals in the 50th and 55th minutes.

“We were lucky to get the first two pretty close together, which made the game all the more doable for us,” said Toronto head coach Greg Vanney. “Again, we got the third goal late in the game and a point is a very good result for today.”

Kei Kamara opened the scoring in the 17th minute for the Crew (8-7-7) with his MLS-leading 15th goal of the season. Tony Tchani doubled the lead with a long-range blast in the 36th minute, and Ethan Finlay made it 3-0 in the 48th.

“I look at the match as a whole and I’ll say we’re disappointed,” said Columbus head coach Gregg Berhalter. “I think the effort was certainly there. No question the guys are exhausted, everyone worked as hard as they could. The execution wasn’t there, both on the offensive side and the defensive side and we’re disappointed. If you go up 3-0 at home, you expect three points.”
