D’IBERVILLE, Miss. – A trio of kayakers out for a Sunday paddle were outmatched by heavy rains that turned Mississippi’s Tuxachanie Creek into a treacherous, fast-moving waterway.
Authorities found the kayakers clinging to branches above the swollen waterway after one of them climbed into a tree and used his cellphone to call for a rescue.
D’Iberville Police Chief Wayne Payne says first responders heard loud screams for help and a Swift Water Rescue Team pulled them to safety.
The men were evaluated and released without serious injuries reported.
