‘Daily Show’ faces backlash for abortion ruling tweet

NEW YORK – “The Daily Show” is facing backlash on social media for a tweet about the Supreme Court’s decision on Texas abortion laws.

The tweet struck a celebratory tone about the ruling followed by a suggestion to get women in Texas pregnant. Some users supported the tweet’s attempt at humour, but many suggested it was in bad taste.

Within a couple of hours, “The Daily Show” replied with a second tweet explaining they weren’t promoting abortions.

On Monday, the Supreme Court issued its strongest defence of abortion rights in a quarter-century by striking down Texas rules that sharply reduced abortion clinics in the nation’s second-most-populous state.

The show did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
