Canadian novelist Nancy Huston makes this year’s Bad Sex in Fiction list

Canadian novelist Nancy Huston is up for the dubious distinction of writing the year’s worst sexual prose.

Huston is among eight authors shortlisted by the publication Literary Review for the Bad Sex in Fiction Award.

Huston’s well-reviewed “Infrared” chronicles a woman’s re-examination of her sexual coming of age as she travels to Italy.

The organizers of the prize say their mission is to “draw attention to the crude, badly written, often perfunctory use of redundant passages of sexual description in the modern novel, and to discourage it.”

The other shortlisted titles are: “The Yips” by Nicola Barker, “The Adventuress” by Nicholas Coleridge, “Rare Earth” by Paul Mason, “Noughties” by Ben Masters, “The Quiddity of Will Self” by Sam Mills, “The Divine Comedy” by Craig Raine and “Back to Blood” by Tom Wolfe.

Literary Review will reveal the award “winner” on Dec. 4.

Canadian Annabel Lyon also made the Bad Sex in Fiction short list in 2010 for “The Golden Mean.”
