ST-JEAN-BAPTISTE-DE-ROUVILLE, Que. – A pilot is dead after his ultralight airplane crashed in a field outside Montreal.

Police say the victim is a man in his 50s but have not released his identity.

A witness spotted the aircraft coming in at a low altitude and alerted police to the crash after seeing the plane go down.

The man rushed to the crash site and found the severely wounded pilot.

Rescue workers attempted to resuscitate the pilot upon arrival but he was declared dead shortly after in hospital.

Police and Transportation Safety Board officials are trying to determine the cause of the late-morning crash southeast of Montreal.
