Man arrested after pulling knife outside Kelowna courthouse

KELOWNA – A man was arrested at the Kelowna Courthouse this morning after he pulled a knife on a sheriff.

Just before 10 a.m. today, May 19, Kelowna RCMP were called to the Kelowna Law Courts to assist B.C. Sheriff's Service which had arrested a man outside on Water Street.

"Police have learned that the suspect had been denied entry into the courthouse after he allegedly refused to allow the B.C. Sheriffs Service to search his bag," Const. Jesse O'Donaghey says in a media release. "The suspect allegedly stood at the bottom of the courthouse steps, pulled a knife from his bag and proceeded to damage his bicycle."

A 37-year-old Kelowna man was taken into custody and turned over to police.
