North Shore police station officially unveiled

KAMLOOPS – The new police station in the North Shore has officially opened and Kamloops officers are excited about the assets this building comes with.

For starters, it’s bigger than the old office on 8 Street, which means more parking spots and easier access for authorized vehicles.

“This has more space, it’s more functional and it helps us serve our community better,” RCMP Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says.

On any given day there will be 12 officers working out of the detachment, along with 70 volunteers in the upstairs offices.

The three major sections working out of the building are crime prevention, general duty and Car 40. Shelkie says Car 40 is an important player in dealing with mental illness-related crimes in the community.

The new location will also make it easier for emergency vehicles to get onto the road in a hurry.

The building is located on 7 Street at the old Kamloops Kia dealership.
