TORONTO – As Canada awaited word on rugby captain Tyler Ardron’s knee injury, Ray Barkwill’s battle scars were plain to see.
The hooker with the shaved head and beard was sporting 13 staples atop his scalp, a souvenir of Canada’s 21-20 loss to Samoa on Wednesday.
“Hairline totally screwed,” Barkwill tweeted in jest after posting picture of his battered melon on social media.
The Canadian hooker left the field in the 35th minute for repairs but was back on the pitch for the second half after getting the cut closed.
Ardron was sporting an ice pack on his knee after being forced to leave the game in the fourth minute. The No. 8 said he did not think the injury was too serious but was slated to undergo a scan to check the extent of the damage.
