Vernon crews put out fire at legal marijuana grow operation

VERNON – Vernon firefighters extinguished an electrical fire at a legal grow operation early this morning.

Vernon Fire Department Capt. Brent Bond says crews called at about 4:45 a.m., May 21, to a building on 29 Street.

Bond says a fire was burning where the power line entered the building. Crews put the fire from the outside, and “gained entry” to the structure to put the fire out on the inside as well. The building contained over 1,000 marijuana plants.

While the fire isn’t considered suspicious, he says, the cause is under investigation by the RCMP. 

RCMP say their invetigation has confirmed the cause of the fire was electrical in nature.
