Ignacio Piatti scores twice; Impact beat NYCFC 3-2 in Frank Lampard’s MLS debut

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Ignacio Piatti scored a pair of goals and the Montreal Impact spoiled Frank Lampard’s MLS debut with a 3-2 victory over New York City FC on Saturday.

The English star energized the sellout crowd at Yankee Stadium when he entered as a substitute in the 69th minute immediately after David Villa closed NYCFC’s deficit to 2-1 on a penalty kick.

The Impact (8-8-3) pushed their lead back to two on Piatti’s penalty kick in the 84th minute, and Thomas McNamara quickly answered for expansion NYCFC (6-10-6) in the 85th.

Dominic Oduro opened the scoring in the fifth minute, getting on the end of Laurent Ciman’s long ball and slipping it through NYCFC goalkeeper Josh Saunders’ legs before tapping it home.

Piatti made it 2-0 in the 32nd minute with a chip shot finish from another long ball.
