Warship set to be ready in November, after 2-year delay

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The costliest aircraft carrier in U.S. history is scheduled to be delivered to the Navy in November after two years of delays.

Citing a Navy statement, the Virginian-Pilot (http://bit.ly/29DAQn4 ) reports that issues involving the USS Gerald R. Ford are still being resolved. The Navy didn’t elaborate, but says testing is being done on electrical systems and the propulsion plant stream.

The Navy says shipbuilding company Huntington Ingalls has been performing well. The ship, which has a price tag of $12.9 billion, is being built in Newport News. As of June, the ship’s construction is 98 per cent complete.

The Navy says that if additional issues arise during testing, the delivery date may need to be revised again.
