Fifth wheel fire in Oliver

OLIVER – Oliver firefighters battled an early morning blaze in the community today.

Oliver Fire Department spokesperson Rob Graham says the department was called to a No.1 Road residence just before 1 a.m., today, May 26, for a structure fire.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a fifth wheel trailer on the property fully engulfed, with flames spreading to a nearby cabin.

Firefighters were able to knock down the flames before they could spread to the interior of the cabin, however, a single  occupant in the cabin was treated on scene by B.C. Ambulance and taken to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

Graham says the fire’s origin is unknown and currently under investigation.

The fifth wheel was completely destroyed, while the cabin suffered some minor exterior damage.

Fifteen firefighters fought the blaze, aided by one pumper and two support vehicles.
