Colombian guerrillas kidnap 3 policemen, soldier

BOGOTA – Colombian authorities say three police officers and a soldier have been kidnapped by a rebel group currently holding peace talks with the government.

Police blamed the National Liberation Army (ELN) on Twitter Friday for the kidnapping which occurred in a remote jungle community in the impoverished Choco province.

The ELN has an estimated 2,000 members and is involved in peace talks that could end five decades of war. Both sides failed to agree to a ceasefire during the last round of negotiations which ended Wednesday.

President-elect Ivan Duque will now handle dialogue with the rebel group, which is the largest in Colombia following a 2016 peace deal with the FARC.
