Power outages planned for Penticton as city completes electrical upgrades

PENTICTON – With major upgrades to some of Penticton’s electrical infrastructure taking place over the next three weeks, expect power outages in several parts of the city next week.

Penticton electrical crews were out in force on Jermyn Avenue yesterday, May 25, as crews performed 'make ready' work on the lines for planned upgrades to a higher voltage, Penticton communications officer Tina Lee says.

Crews were replacing insulators, transformers and other distribution equipment in order to convert the lines to 12 kilovolts from eight kilovolts, Lee says.

Planned power outages are scheduled for certain areas of the city between May 29 and July 1. The power outages are planned to last six hours and are scheduled for daytime hours when most people are out of the house. 

Upgrades are being done in six stages, based on services in that area.
