Plans for an ‘Archie’ musical in the works written by ‘Anchorman’ director Adam McKay

NEW YORK, N.Y. – A familiar, freckle-faced teen is on his way to the stage — Archie.

Writer, director and producer Adam McKay has teamed up with Funny Or Die to produce a new musical that will bring together Archie, Betty, Veronica, Jughead and the Riverdale gang.

McKay, who directed and co-wrote with Will Ferrell the “Anchorman” films, “Talladega Nights” and “Step Brothers,” will write the story. The songwriter and cast will be announced later.

The Archie comics have previously spawned several animated TV series since the 1960s. In 1990, NBC aired the TV film “Archie: To Riverdale and Back Again” and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is writing a live-action movie based on the long-running comic.

Comics have made the leap to stage before, including “The Addams Family,” ”Annie” and “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.”
