WINNIPEG – Prime Minister Justin Trudeau won't say whether his government is considering taking any action against the ambassador who tackled a protester last week.

Kevin Vickers, the former House of Commons sergeant-at-arms, stopped a protester at a Dublin ceremony, raising eyebrows in security and diplomatic circles.

Vickers was hailed as a hero for thwarting a gunman on Parliament Hill two years ago when he was sergeant-at-arms for the Commons.

At the Liberal party convention in Winnipeg, Trudeau had little comment on the matter.

When a reporter asked Trudeau if he was considering recalling Vickers, the prime minister replied that it's easy to second-guess choices people make in unexpected situations.

However he also said Canadians expect diplomats to do the right thing and represent their country well.

On Friday Foreign Affairs Minister Stephane Dion refused to comment on the matter.
