Drunk driver calls drunk friend for pickup at roadside check

SPALLUMCHEEN – A woman who pulled over at a roadside check to pick up an impaired friend had her car impounded after she failed a sobriety test.

Mounties set up at the Otter Lake Road roundabout in Spallumcheen July 9 and checked a vehicle driven by a 37-year-old woman who was showing signs of impairment. When the driver blew a fail into a roadside screening device, she was issued a 90 day IRP. One of the officers offered the driver transportation home but she declined, saying she already called a friend who was on the way.

When a vehicle arrived ten minutes later, the officers spoke with the driver. The officer noticed the 47-year-old driver of the second vehicle, there to pick up her impaired friend who had just been stopped, also smelled of alcohol. The second driver was given a roadside screening test and failed.

The second driver was also issued a 90 day IRP and both vehicles were impounded for 30 days.

This time, both drivers accepted a ride back to their residences by the officers.
