Alberta driver nabbed for excessive speeding in Lake Country

DRIVER WAS GOING MORE THAN 210 KILOMETRES PER HOUR

LAKE COUNTRY – An Alberta man driving well over the posted speed limit through Lake Country this weekend earned a stiff penalty after getting caught by police.

Mounties nabbed the driver around 6:20 p.m. Saturday, May 28, while conducting a speed enforcement operation on Highway 97 in Lake Country, Const. Jesse O’Donaghey says in a release.

Police say the white 2010 Audi R8 was going more than 210 km/h in the posted 100 km/h zone along Highway 97 near Pelmewash Parkway. Weather and roadway conditions were not ideal at the time of the traffic stop, with light rain and wet roads, O’Donaghey says.

The Alberta driver was charged under the Motor Vehicle Act for excessive speeding and issued a $483 fine. His vehicle was towed and will be impounded for one week.

“RCMP would like to take this opportunity to remind motorists to slow down, especially on wet roads and in bad weather conditions,” O’Donaghey says. “High-risk driving behaviours, like speeding, increase your chances of crashing and put yourself and others at risk of sustaining serious injury.”
