Former Maple Leaf Stanley Cup winner Gus Mortson dies at age 90
TIMMINS, Ont. – Former eight-time NHL all-star and four-time Stanley Cup winner Angus “Gus” Mortson died Saturday morning. He was 90 years old.
Mortson, a defenceman from New Liskeard, Ont., played for the Toronto Maple Leafs (1946-1952), the Chicago Blackhawks (1952-1958), and the Detroit Red Wings (1958-1959) in his 13-year career.
He won four Stanley Cups with the Maple Leafs from 1947-1951 and played in eight NHL all-star games from 1947-1956.
Mortson had 46 goals and 152 assists in 796 career NHL games.
His death was confirmed in a statement released by Miron-Wilson Funeral Home in Timmins, Ont., on behalf of Mortson’s family.
