Canadian junior Andrew Nembhard completes transfer to top-ranked Bulldogs

SPOKANE, Wash. – Canadian junior Andrew Nembhard has had his transfer to Gonzaga approved by the NCAA and will be available for the No. 1 Bulldogs’ season opener.

Nembhard, a six-foot-five, 193-pound guard from Aurora, Ont., averaged 33 minutes, 11.2 points, 5.6 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game for Florida last season.

Nembhard had initially declared for the NBA draft for a second straight year before once again removing his name.

Gonzaga has been a hotbed for Canadian talent of late. Recent Canadians in its men’s basketball program include Miami Heat centre Kelly Olynyk, Memphis Grizzlies forward Brandon Clarke, FC Barcelona guard Kevin Pangos and forward Kyle Wiltjer of Turk Telekom, based in Ankara, Turkey.

The Bulldogs open their season Thursday against No. 6 Kansas.
