Teen driver pleads guilty in Maine crash that killed 3
CLINTON, Maine – A teenage driver in a February crash that killed three youths has pleaded guilty in Maine.
The 17-year-old from Clinton was 16 at the time of the crash that killed passengers Emily Baker, 14, Ashlin Baker, 12 and Thomas Porfirio, 15. He pleaded guilty to three counts of manslaughter on Friday at Capital Judicial Center in Augusta.
Kennebec County District Attorney Maeghan Maloney said the teen was driving twice the speed limit and had marijuana in his system, WCSH-TV reported. His attorney, Walter McKee, disputed the claim that he was under the influence of marijuana.
Maloney said the teen should be sentenced to a youth facility until age 21. His sentencing will be at a later date. He remained under house arrest on Friday.
The crash happened in Clinton when the car appeared to hit a patch of ice and then strike a tree.
