MULCAIR OPENS NEW CHAPTER IN ELECTION CAMPAIGN

NDP leader Tom Mulcair takes his campaign to Toronto, but he’ll be selling books as well as his campaign platform. He’s attending the official launch of his autobiography. Prime Minister Stephen Harper is also in the Toronto-area today while Liberal leader Justin Trudeau is sticking to Montreal.

HARPER CAMPAIGN TAKING FLIGHT ACROSS THE COUNTRY

With their campaign coffers bulging it’s off the bus and onto the plane for the Harper team. The prime minister and his election crew are taking flight in their chartered aircraft with plans to crisscross the country this week. First stop today is the Greater Toronto Area where the Conservatives are fighting to hang onto to seats that helped them win a majority government in 2011. The Tories fired up the campaign plane on Sunday.

SOME ETHNIC CANADIANS FACE GREATER DANGER OF HEART ATTACKS AND STROKES

An Ontario-based study has found there are increasing rates of obesity, diabetes and high blood pressure in some ethnic groups over the last decade. The study, which looked at nearly a quarter of a million Ontarians between 2001 to 2012, found for example that diabetes rates more than doubled among South Asian men and almost doubled among black women. Researchers say the prevalence of diabetes was the most striking difference.
